Case Study

The Customer

Rosalind is a passionate philanthropist who established a foundation that supports young women and girls in her community. Her mission is to create a safe space for these ladies to realize and release their potential, with a vision to empower them towards learning to lead successfully by developing their inner queen. She accomplishes this through mentorship and life coaching, support and advocacy, education and empowerment sessions, and hosting creative programs and engaging workshops.

Overview

Rosalind has an extensive history in social work and a background working with at risk youth in school systems, helping them to overcome obstacles in life. Her passion as a mentor to work with these young women led her to establish her R.E.L.E.A.S.E Foundation. She is also an entrepreneur, working alongside her husband with their businesses in the Health & Wellness industry. She needed me to design and build a website to meet the needs and portray the mission of her amazing foundation.

Design Direction

Color

The color scheme needed to echo the feminine nature of the foundation, so various pink and purple hues were explored here. The final color scheme included a delicate and muted pink hue that could be used as a background on sections of the website instead of plain white, as well as a range of pink, mauve and purple hues of varying degrees to provide contrasting colors throughout the theme, including buttons, borders and accents.

Type

The type is a clean and easily legible typeface that has a friendly and urban appeal. Font variations of different weights and sizes were incorporated throughout the site to add dimension and character, delineate specific sections and accent quotations, yet this primary typeface was maintained for a consistent message and clean style at the same time. The lowercase text transform property for title headings gave a youthful vibe.

Web Details

The logo was provided and already in use by the foundation in various forms of print. I did need to remove the background from the original logo file so that I had a transparent version to work with for the website. I then cleaned up the logo, sharpened edges, and along with the original full color version I created a light version and a dark version for different applications. The white version I used as the main site logo in a transparent header that worked well on the top left of the home and main pages as it allowed maximum visibility over the featured header imagery. I was also able to incorporate the full color logo as a center focal point into the footer section.

There were a couple of important documents for the foundation’s offered programs that the customer wanted easily accessible through the website. I created an action page for this with downloadable document links that prospects can obtain, fill out, and return. I was able to revise the appearance a bit, clean up for consistency, and add the transparent logo into the pdfs with Adobe Acrobat DC.

Finishing Touches

The website came together well with the required pages and features. The contact form and email SMTP were set up and tested with minimal troubleshooting. The aforementioned pdf forms were refined and the requested donation links for the foundation were created and implemented on the Take Action page.

Final content sections were organized and put in place, including a FAQ section and About bio. Social links were added, imagery updated, everything QA’d, and the site proofed by the client and her team of ambassadors. With minor revisions and a few finishing touches the site was approved and ready to be launched.

Client Feedback

Sarah has been great to work with and made it such an easy process with her expertise and taking care of the technical details. She implemented all the requests I had with efficiency and went above and beyond assisting with content, polishing assets, and adding personalized site features. I am so happy to have a professional presentation to share that truly represents my passion. The look and feel of the design is exactly how I want to portray my foundation, and my board members and I love the website. She has been amazing through the entire process and all our communications. I would not have been able to figure this out without her.
